Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book tickets and can I pay by credit/debit card on the door?
Ordering tickets is simple – you can book tickets online from this site.
You can also pay on the door and we accept cash, credit or debit card.
What kind of films do you screen?
We screen all types of films including comedy, crime, romance, period drama, thriller, horror. crime etc. Some films are classics but we also show the latest films that have just finished their cinema run. You can also recommend films to screen.
Is access to the cinema wheelchair and buggy friendly?
Yes, the entrance is accessible for both and there is a lift to the First Floor.
Is the seating area sloping?
Seating is all on one level but the chairs are separate allowing you to reposition them so you have an unrestricted view. Handy if the local basketball team are sat in front of you! Also, the film is screened high so that you can see that crisp, clear image on the wall without restriction.
Can I bring or buy alcohol at the cinema?
Not at present.
What is a community cinema?
A community cinema means a cinema that is run for the community. It charges low prices and the money it raises is spent on other community projects. A community cinema is run by volunteers and there are opportunities to volunteer and help out. Community cinemas value your opinions and like you tell us what films you would like us to screen. A community cinema places the audience at the heart of everything it does.
Are the films you show subtitled?
We screen foreign-language films (non-English language) subtitled.
What is the picture and sound like?
We screen all films against a large white wall so the screen size is very big and very wide like in any other cinema. We show all our films in high definition. We use surround sound with speakers positioned in the ceiling – it all makes for a great immersive experience.
Are there intervals?
For the longer films there is often a short interval.
What is your pricing policy?
We generally charge the same ticket price for all the films we show unless there is a reason to charge differently. For example, we charge more for a new digitally restored version of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ because it costs more for us to buy. We may charge a little more for films that have just come off the mainstream cinema because they cost more to buy. The price you pay is still a fraction of what you would expect to pay at other cinemas, especially a multi-plex.
Can groups hire the cinema for a private viewing?
Yes! Contact us with your requirements.
How do I volunteer?
We welcome volunteers! If you fancy volunteering, fill out a contact form below with your details (at this website) or you can contact Stephen directly on 07549789747 or email stephen@blockcinema.org .
Do you have toilets?
We have one, unisex toilet.
Is the cinema dog friendly?
Provided your doggy is happy in human company and in the company of other doggies and loud sounds don’t bother them, they are welcome! Assistance dogs are always welcome.
