Who We Are

Our Mission

The Block is an independent, community-driven cinema and film club.   It was established with the support of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and Councillor Mary Monaghan.  It is run by a team of volunteers and administered by Together One CIC, a non-profit social enterprise based in Wythenshawe.  The Block is Wythenshawe’s only cinema.  Money raised by the cinema is spent on community projects in Northenden and Wythenshawe.

THE POWER OF CINEMA

Cinema entertains, educates and informs.  It is an art form for all, irrespective of race, class, and background.  Every nation has represented itself and its concerns through the mirror of the lens.

Cinema is magical – we can escape into new worlds and explore new possibilities.  It invites our empathy for the characters and their situations.  In the characters we see ourselves and our issues and concerns.

Cinema is a shared experience – a social activity.  It is the audience that brings the cinema to life and all are welcome.

Our Core Values

The Block is community-focused and welcomes collaboration, cooperation and sharing.  We want everyone to enjoy their visit and leave feeling  entertained, informed and possibly inspired!

  • All are welcome
  • All are valued
  • All are treated as equals
  •
